Retail experience company IMAGR has won the 2018 Asian Entrepreneurship Award at an event held in Tokyo, Japan on Friday 02 November.
The awards, now in their seventh year, involved 20 technology companies from 13 ASEAN countries. IMAGR was selected by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) Investment to represent New Zealand at this year’s awards.
Founder and CEO William Chomley said, “IMAGR was awarded first prize for SMARTCART, an image recognition retrofit solution which enables a personalized and seamless shopping experience. It enables customers to pair their smartphones with shopping carts so they no longer need to wait in line at the checkout. Items are instantly and automatically recognized as they are placed into the cart, payment is completely seamless, and a digital receipt is produced upon exiting the store.”
“The IMAGR team are thrilled to be recognized in this prestigious competition. It has always been our mission to improve the shopping experience for customers, and to win an international award like this, competing against globally innovative companies, is testament to the truly incredible work done by our team,” said Mr. Chomley.
NZTE GM Investment, Dylan Lawrence said, “It’s fantastic to see IMAGR being recognised for its innovation and growth ambitions at the Asian Entrepreneurship Award. Building technology to improve and personalise customer experience and then to commercialise this on the world stage, is not an easy feat. However with their world class development team and continued support from NZTE, we’re sure IMAGR will go from strength to strength.”
IMAGR were also awarded the Audience Prize, voted for by both the judges and the audience.
Founded in 2015, IMAGR is a New Zealand based market leader in the field of artificial intelligence and computer vision. William Chomley, along with a dedicated team of engineers and designers, have developed the revolutionary technology behind SMARTCART, earning praise and accolades from various investors and publications alike. IMAGR’s mission is to create a smarter shopping experience by eliminating the various frustrations brought about by the poorly connected systems currently used in retail.
